10 Style Tips

10. The most trendy doesn't always equal the most flattering. We all love a great fad to make us feel accepted, but don't let these dominate your wardrobe. The occasional pair of bleach-washed jeans are cute sometimes, but please don't miraculously morph into a Wham! video.

9. Don't neglect the basics. You can't have a strong closet without the key essentials, like a great pair of dress slacks, a classic denim jacket and a standard little black dress for the ladies. Guys, stock up on classic colored dress shirts, casual pullovers and the crucial pair of "good butt" jeans.

8. Color experimentation can be a good thing. Who says no brown with black, or pink with red? Why can't we wear white in winter? Colors are a beautiful thing. Go wild.

7. Balance silhouettes. Even out your ensemble by complimenting shapes and sizes. Wear a fitted top with looser bottoms or vice versa. A miniskirt should never, under any circumstances, be paired with a cropped tube top.

6. Take constructive criticism, and listen to your friends. They care about you, which means they don't want to see you look fat in public. Don't take it personally because not all of us have the best judgment when it comes to our own appearance. Get a third-party opinion.

5. Only adhere to advice with which you agree. So with the previous statement being said, don't always revere someone else's opinion (even my own) as the end-all-be-all of fashionable attire. Advice is helpful sometimes, but remember that you get the final vote.

4. Wear clothes that fit. No matter how expensive your jeans are or how popular your blazer might be, if they don't fit the look is ruined. For instance, girls, if you have visible panty line from a thong, something is seriously wrong. Let's talk.

3. Accessories make the outfit. Really, this is quite self-explanatory. Adorn away.

2. Stick to the image you know you can pull off. If you're edgy and rebellious, Hot Topic is just the place for you, but if you're more of a khakis and loafers kind of kid, don't be ashamed of the Gap. Everybody has their own unique style.

1. Nothing looks as hot as self-confidence. Be comfortable in your own skin. Whether you're wearing L.A.M.B. or L.A. Gear, no one will notice if you're sulking behind insecurities. People are more likely to notice your outfit after your smile.

Please take all of these as opinions and ultimately trust your gut when it comes to how you look.

In: Feminine dressing, thin belts, head scarves, pencil skirts that are knee length or longer, sequins, metallics, silk jersey and chiffon, hats, clutches, dressing up, colors- orange, rose, lavender, green and silver, the new neutral.

Out: wicker and raffia shoes, ultra short skirts and shorts, peasant skirts, jersey knits, babydoll dresses, lots of black and/or other dark colors, loud geometric printsThe take away: Focus on fit and quality- less on brand. Go cheap on accessories like the skinny belt (can get from forever21, target, hm) and metallic purses. Shop now (while some stores still have some summer merchandise on sale) for spring/summer colors like lavender (saw light weight early fall sweaters in lavender at Macys and plus size store Ashley Stewart that could be purchased now for spring).

New Photographs

Faite Designs spent part of their weekend with Kelly of KellyO Photography participating in a product photoshoot for some new handbag pictures.

We plan to update our website and get some new marketing materials going. We are also very excited to work on some new lifestyle photographs sometime later this Spring. Working with Kelly is always very professional and fun. She listens to what we are looking for and offers of a variety of shots for each handbag.

The results of our shoot should be available in the next few weeks and we will be displaying it on the website with an update out to all our Faite Friends!!

Kelly was a student at Brooks Academy in Santa Barbara and has studied photography for over 10 years. She currently does portraits, weddings, events, product and a variety of other work. We have been very happy with our results when working with her and hope to work with her this spring on getting some new lifestyle photographs and to get a few professional photos of the new handbags we have been selling!

A little about the founders of Faite Designs. The photo you see was taken at our launch party in November of 2006. Sally was born and raised in San Diego, CA and Krista in Chicago, IL. They met through mutual friends almost 4 years ago. They are both creative and innovative women who shared an idea and made it into a reality with 'Faite Designs'. Being active outdoors and involved in their community has been important to them and starting a small business in their town has opened more doors to help and contribute!

San Diego is the base of the business but they continue to hope it will grow more online. Handbag socials are available throughout Southern California as they have now included a third partner, Lisa Stillings. She lives in the Orange County area so there is more range of availability for the Faite clientele.

Handbag Hooks

Have you heard of the latest convenience for women's handbags? The 'handbag hook' or 'purse hook' whichever you prefer. They are very convenient and Faite is considering selling them on our website.

They fit easily inside of your handbag and when you get to a restaurant, bar or any destination with a table, you just pull out the hook and voila! The hook hangs on the table with an adorably decorative holder and then the hook goes under the table for you to hang your handbag from. I have included a picture, so you get the idea.

What a clever device so we aren't worrying about our handbags all night!

Above is a color chart to help give you an idea of what colors we will be seeing this Spring. As always people like to shine with something unique and original. There is also more of a pull towards what is "Green" or environmentally friendly. We will see more and more cloth shopping bags and use of recycled materials in our fashions.

Faite Designs can include themselves in this movement towards a more "Green" world. We do not use any leather products and we are encouraging our clients to use more fabrics that have sentimental meaning to them; clothes, blankets, and materials from events or important times in their lives. This is our way of 'recycling' materials.

About Faite Designs

Two friends came together to create something. Faite Designs - a company owned and run by women for women. There is so much out there in this world that it's hard to have anything that is original anymore. Faite would like to be a part of making uniqueness a little less difficult.

We make handbags that are designed by our clients. Now, keeping things simple is a great trait to any business as well. So we currently have eight styles of handbags that you can choose from. Then there are about 50 different fabrics, mainly upholstery and suedes that you pick from and decide what fabric goes where. There is also a collection of lining so choose from - every aspect of the bag is personalized.

If you are looking for something and we don't have it, we will look for it. If you have a material you would like to use because it will match a particular outfit, we will try to work with it.

In the works are about 3 to 5 new styles that will hopefully come out sometime in 2007. Eventually we would like to have diaper bags, make-up bags, puppy carriers... a large variety of styles in our collection.
